Start

Snowflakes danced through the frigid air as a silver fox traversed the chilly, damp ground beneath her paws. She was on a determined journey back to her sanctuary, a hidden cottage nestled deep within the heart of the Demon World. This secluded haven, known only to her, provided a solitary refuge where she could escape the world.

She let out a soft sigh as she settled into a seat. "Maybe I shouldn't have gone for that run," she muttered under her breath. Although she wasn't particularly cold, she despised the snow. With a glare, she regarded the white ground as her tail flicked restlessly behind her. Another sigh escaped her lips as she rose to her feet and began walking once more. Home wasn’t far away.

Several years ago, a young fox demon encountered a group of children. Initially, she perceived them simply as kids, but she recognized one of them—Hiei, who had previously saved her on a few occasions. As she forged friendships with the others, she discovered that Yusuke was a half-breed, and she was aware of his father. Kuwabara, though not truly a friend, had Yukina—a long-time companion—consistently urging her to befriend him. Unfortunately, this was proving difficult, as she harbored a strong dislike for humans. Among the group, Kurama stood out; he resembled a fox yet appeared more human. He quickly became her favorite. While she wasn't certain if her feelings for him were romantic, she cherished every moment spent in his company.

She never transformed into her human form when around people, choosing instead to remain a fox among the group. While Yusuke believed there was a deeper reason for her reluctance, she simply didn't seem to like it.

She leaped up the steps to the house, letting out a sigh. Suddenly, she flinched, sensing another presence nearby. She absentmindedly rubbed her paw against her nose, scanning her surroundings. Though she couldn't feel anyone, their scent lingered in the air. With a mix of caution and curiosity, she slowly and quietly made her way inside.

A small fire flickered in what was once referred to as the living room, a peculiar sight since she hadn’t left it burning. Curiosity drew her closer, and she settled down beside it, the air infused with Hiei's familiar scent. A soft sigh escaped her as her ears twitched, awareness tingling in her senses. Clearly, someone was still present, but their identity eluded her nose. As she scanned her surroundings, a sudden movement startled her; a gentle touch brushed against her fur, nearly prompting her to revert to her human form.

She spun around and blinked in surprise. "Kurama, what brings you here?"

A smile graced his lips as he gazed at her. “I heard you were alone, and I honestly didn't want that for you.”

With a soft sigh, she reclined beside him while he gently stroked her. “Aren't you supposed to be with your family? After all, it's what humans refer to as Christmas time.”

He paused for a moment, contemplating his feelings. He did desire to be with his family, but strangely enough, it was Yusuke who led his mother to send him away. Yet, he wasn't about to reveal that. "Hmm... I should be with them, but it is rather quiet here."

She nodded slightly. “I understand,” she replied, lost in thought. Typically, she would have shifted back to her human form by now, but she hesitated this time, sensing that he planned to stay for a while. At least, that was her assumption, as he hadn’t actually mentioned it.

She blinked in surprise as she sensed his hand come to a halt. Looking up, she blinked again, realizing that his vibrant red hair was actually silver. His beautiful green eyes shimmered with a golden hue, and strikingly, he bore a resemblance to someone from her past.

Youko glanced down at the fox, a playful smirk forming on his lips. "Nyra, how long do you intend to remain in that disguise?" he inquired, his tone a mix of mild boredom and mischief, eager to engage with her.

Nyra sprang to her feet, distancing herself from the man. She was aware that Kurama harbored another form within him, but she never truly considered it to be her former lover... or was he really her ex? Ultimately, it didn't matter. He was the only male, apart from Hiei, who was familiar with her human appearance. She settled down and shot him a fierce glare. “I’ll stay as long as I want.”

He let out a soft sigh as he rose to his feet. Stepping closer, he knelt beside her, fully aware of several methods to coax her out of her fox form. Determined, he reached out toward her head, causing her to flinch, and gently grasped the fur at the nape of her neck.

In an instant, she transformed into her human guise, fixating him with an intense glare. In this form, her long silver hair seamlessly blended into shades of black at the tips, complemented by elegant silver ears and a delicate tail. She adorned herself in a luxurious silvery kimono, one sleeve falling gracefully to reveal her shoulder and the distinctive nine-tailed fox mark etched onto her skin. Originally a nine-tailed fox demon, she concealed eight of her tails, adding an air of mystery to her captivating presence.

"I despise you," she shot back, her eyes narrowing as she tugged the fallen sleeve back up over her shoulder.

Youko flashed a playful smirk and gently pressed his lips to hers. “You can be angry all you like, but I prefer this form over the fox form. Besides, didn’t you wish for this for Christmas?”

She felt a gentle warmth spread across her cheeks from the kiss. “Um... I'm not sure I understand what you mean.”

He leaned in and kissed her tenderly once more. “You know, Hiei has the ability to read thoughts.”

She blinked slowly, then let out a deep sigh, lowering her head as her ears fell against her hair. “I knew that... I just couldn't...” Her words trailed off when Youko enveloped her in a gentle embrace, holding her close.
