No More Tears
Sometime between Ch2 to Ch9
Mira was on the verge of tears, but she wished to keep her emotions hidden from others, not wanting to burden them with her sorrow. Her fox was still injured and far away in the northern territories, a place shrouded in mystery and danger, but at least her mage, Soren, had returned to the castle. While she felt a flicker of relief at Soren's presence, the persistent absence of her beloved fox was weighing heavily on her heart, an ache that grew more pronounced with each passing moment.
As she strolled through the grand halls of the castle, her footsteps echoing softly against the stone, she let out a soft sigh that barely escaped her lips. Everyone around her was preoccupied with their own activities, engaged in conversations or tasks that seemed to distract them from the underlying tension in the air, yet she could sense their concern for her well-being. She understood that the pain of losing someone dear, regardless of whether they would recover or not, would be profound and long-lasting, yet she had not yet shed a tear. The thought of her fox, so far away and in need, gnawed at her insides, but she fought to hold back the tears that threatened to spill over, determined to maintain her composure.
Meanwhile, Soren trailed behind her at a respectful distance, biding his time until he could speak to her privately, waiting for an opportune moment to draw her away from the distractions and noise of the castle. He was acutely aware of her vulnerabilities, having witnessed her in moments of fragility before, and he knew just how to approach her when she was at her lowest. He remained quiet, an attentive observer, as he noted her pause to exchange a few words with Inu-yasha, who happened to walk by. Their brief interaction was a small reprieve for her, a momentary distraction from her worries, but Soren could see the underlying turmoil in her eyes, the struggle she faced between wanting to be strong and the deep-seated pain she was trying to suppress.
After a while, Mira arrived at her room, a sense of comfort enveloping her as she recognized Soren's presence just outside. She didn't mind his proximity; it felt reassuring to know he was nearby, watching over her in a way that made her feel safe. She pushed the door open and stepped into her softly lit sanctuary, the familiar scent of lavender filling the air. With a gentle sigh, she made her way to the large king-sized bed, which was a striking sight with its black covers intricately adorned with light blue designs. The bed was not just large; it was an inviting haven, piled high with an abundance of plush pillows that beckoned her to sink into their softness. As she sat down, the comfort of the bedding enveloped her, and she allowed herself to relax, feeling the weight of the day begin to lift away.
He entered her room and gently shut the door after him, ensuring that the soft click wouldn’t disturb the stillness that enveloped them. Leaning against the door, he took a moment to observe her, his expression a mix of concern and tenderness. “How are you doing, Princess?” he asked, his voice low and warm, hoping to draw her out of her thoughts.
With teary eyes resembling those of a small tears, she gazed up at him, her small frame trembling slightly with the weight of her emotions. “Soren, I can’t battle them any longer… I understand that Sinta is secure… but… my heart feels heavy, and it’s as if the very essence of my spirit is wearing thin under the pressure of this reality.”
He let out a gentle sigh, a sound filled with a mix of understanding and concern, and approached her with a calm demeanor. Setting the book he had been holding down on her bedside table, he enveloped her petite frame in a loose embrace, drawing her nearer to his chest, where she could feel the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. “You long for that fox, and the feelings you’ve kept hidden are surfacing with the tears you wish to avoid,” he spoke to her softly, his voice a soothing balm against the turmoil that swirled within her. “Those tears, they are not a sign of weakness, but rather a testament to the love and bond you shared. It’s okay to feel, to grieve for what you’ve lost, and to acknowledge the ache of your heart.”
She felt a slight flush creep onto her cheeks as she drew near to him, the warmth of his presence enveloping her like a comforting blanket. Closing her deep red eyes, she finally allowed the tears to stream down her face, each drop a release of the pent-up emotions she had been trying to suppress. "I... really dislike this... sensation..." she whispered softly, her voice barely above a murmur, as she cuddled against him, seeking solace in his embrace. It was a confusing mix of vulnerability and longing, and as she nestled closer, she felt the tension in her chest begin to ease ever so slightly, though the weight of her feelings remained heavy on her heart.
The mage let out a soft sigh, feeling uneasy about witnessing her in this state, her usual radiance dimmed by worry. "I understand this... but it will fade once he comes back, bringing with him the warmth and light that you’ve been missing, and everything will slowly return to the way it was, filled with hope and joy."
She nodded and fell silent, her expression shifting as tears began to stream down her cheeks, quietly weeping in the stillness of the moment.
Mira had wept for an hour or two before finally succumbing to sleep, during which Soren gently placed her beneath her covers, ensuring she was comfortable and warm. It pained him to witness her stifle her tears, and watching her endure that for such a long time must have been difficult, a burden he wished he could lift from her shoulders.
Soren positioned himself beside the bed, softly brushing his fingers against her cheek, feeling the warmth of her skin beneath his touch. “A frosty princess who cherishes her knights...” he mused, his voice a gentle whisper in the stillness of the room. He paused to lean in closer to her ear, wanting to ensure his words reached her heart. “Mira, it's important for you to express your feelings rather than conceal them,” he urged, hoping she could sense the sincerity in his voice. He pressed a light kiss on her cheek, a tender gesture meant to convey his unwavering support, before pulling back slightly, allowing her to rest and reflect on his words.
