Darkness
[timeline: one month after Tekki's awakening in Jodah's Revenge]
The room was pitch black, long drapes covered the balcony windows and the moon was hidden behind dark clouds. His pupils grew wide, drawing in all the light possible. Even then, he could barely make out the woman sleeping right next to him, but he could easily hear her even breathing.
It was comforting.
He was no longer alone.
He reached out a hand tentatively and lightly touched her stomach. He sighed quietly, not wanting to disturb her sleep. Under his fingertips he could already sense his son. My son! Already he felt a bond to the unborn child; and a terrible need to protect him.
Protect him…
He prayed that he would always be able to do that. That his son would be free from nightmares – terrible nightmares that had turned into reality.
How had it happened so easily? Even with all of his Bobcat senses, he had walked straight into the trap. All his power and he was completely helpless. Against a human!!
A filthy human!
He snarled softly in the darkness, his fangs barely visible in the gloomy room. He never imagined torture like that. He began to tremble slightly as he remembered….
The torment.
The pain.
The debasement.
He had been used worse than any female Bobcat had ever been used. He had been defiled.
Abused.
Tortured.
Damaged.
He whimpered slightly and began to curl his body, aching to go into the safety of a fetal position – to hide from the overwhelming memories.
“Kenru….” he whispered.
She was awake instantly, turning towards her mate, “Tekki?” She saw him curling up and felt his trembling body. She wrapped him in her arms tightly and kissed his forehead. “No, my love, it’s over. He’s dead. He can’t hurt you any more. No one will ever hurt you again.” She cooed to him, repeating the same words over and over until he finally stopped shaking.
“The memories are so vivid.” He whispered. Tears stained his dark lashes. “I can’t forget….”
“Beloved! Think of the future, not the past. Think of your son. He will born in only a few months. Red-haired as you are. I know it. Tekku…. we’ll call him Tekku.”
“Tekku…” He whispered the word, clinging to it like a drowning man to a life vest.
She took his hand and placed it on the small mound of her stomach. He pressed in, sensing the child beneath his fingertips. Tekku…
“You – and my son – are my life. I would not have survived without you.” He looked at her shadowy figure, suddenly wishing for light. As if in answer to his unspoken prayer, the moon came out from behind the clouds and soft light filtered through the curtains. He touched her face gently, just a whisper of a touch, caressing her cheek. “I love you so much.”
Kenru’s eyes glistened with unshed tears as she nodded, afraid to trust her voice. She put her hand over his, interlacing their fingers. She moved slightly closer and lifted her face, offering her lips to him. He had not touched her sexually since his awakening a month ago. And she had been afraid to make the first move.
He hesitated for a second and then covered her mouth with his own; the kiss deepening with each passing second. Kenru threw her arms around him, suddenly aching for him.
Then she felt him stiffen and she moved quickly away.
“I’m sorry…” he said, lowering his face in shame.
“No, I pushed you – it’s too soon.” Kenru quickly interjected. “I’ll give you all the time you need.”
He looked up at her again. “I want you – but – I’m afraid….”
“Afraid? That you’ll hurt me? Or that you’ll be hurt? Neither will happen…”
“I know.” He sighed. “But….”
“Then we’ll wait until you’re sure. I’ll wait even if it takes forever.”
“I don’t deserve you.”
“Yes, you do.” Kenru countered. “We deserve each other. What you don’t deserve is what happened to you. I wish I could take it away – erase everything. But I can’t – so instead, I’ll wait for you. And when you’re ready, I’ll be right here.”
A tear slid down his cheek and he nodded in silence. His voice cracked slightly as he answered.
“Thank you, Kenru, thank you.”
Darkness...
As the shadows of despair comes in the night
I hide and try to fight;
Even then with all my might
I alone cannot break through
But the hope before me is true...
Purple eyes and hair covered in blue
But all there is, is Darkness...
He sat on the floor outside of Kaiba’s Tower. Inside his mate, his beloved Kenru, was giving birth without him. He wanted to be with her, but the thought of her in pain had incapacitated him and he was pushed outside the room. So he waited alone.
Please let her be alright. He prayed. If anything happened to her – NO!!! Don’t even think that thought! She will be fine and so will Tekku.
Tekku.
His son was being born on the other side of the door. He should be in there! Tekki stood up and placed a hand on the doorknob, but he couldn’t make himself turn it.
There will be blood.
Red blood – like his own.
Spilling out between her legs – just like his did.
He leaned his forehead against the door and a tear slid down his face.
Forgive me, Kenru.
Suddenly the door opened and he almost fell inside. Rin looked at him startled and then recovered. “Come in, Tekki. It’s all over.”
He looked at her but didn’t move. He could smell the blood. He turned ashen.
Rin understood and smiled, touching his forearm. “Wait right here.” She turned away, disappearing as she moved past the open door. A minute later she reappear, this time holding a small blue bundle. “Meet your son.” She placed the bundle into his arms before he could protest and then uncovered the baby.
Green-gold eyes looked up at him and soft dark red hair covered his head. He looked so small and helpless. Tekki's heart filled to almost bursting point.
“Tekku.” He whispered to his son. The baby looked at him with intelligent eyes and then smiled.
“Let’s take him to his mother.” Rin said gently, leading him into the room.
Tekki followed her lead, carefully holding the baby – the smell of blood was forgotten – the pain and terror had vanished – all that mattered was this tiny baby in his arms.
His son.
His hope.
His salvation.
He knelt down next to his mate and looked into her eyes and smiled. He started to give Tekku to her, but she stopped him.
“No, you hold him for a while. Let him get to know his father.”
Tekki nodded and sat down next to her, rocking the baby in his arms.
His strong arms.
His protective arms.
His loving arms.
And everything was right with the world again.
