Chapter 13

Hiei surprised Kagome with his arrival, but she didn't know where Aya lived, she only had his phone number. When she suggested calling him and asking for his help, Hiei shook his head. He didn't trust the human. But he had no other choice, so he relented and Kagome made the call. Aya came over within the hour.

Hiei didn't want to give away his plan, but it depended on getting on the plane, and he was forced to trust the young man. Sakio was due to go to the island tomorrow and Aya was going with him. At first, Aya refused to help him, afraid for Sakio, until Hiei told him about Aniki. The young man turned ashen with the thought of a 14-year-old being used as Kouga was, and he immediately agreed to help. He would distract Sakio so that Hiei could get on the plane on one condition, that Sakio not be harmed. Hiei was loathed to give in to this condition. Sakio had raped Kouga over and over -- this filthy human didn't deserve to live! But Aya threatened not to go near the plane or his lover if Hiei didn't give him that promise, so the Fire Demon reluctantly gave in. Aya promised to pick Hiei up on his way to the airport tomorrow morning. Too much depended on a human and Hiei was very uneasy about it, but Aya kept his word. During the ride to the airport, Hiei reminded Aya that he could not say anything to Sakio or all would be lost. Aya nodded, a worried look on his face. He wasn't sure if he trusted the red-eyed demon, but the captives had to be freed, especially Aniki.

This time the plane had a third passenger, a man named Hido. He was an overweight, soft-looking businessman in his late fifties. And he was going to the island to meet his pet for the first time. Aya realized immediately that he was talking about Aniki. That meant that Aniki had not been harmed yet. He prayed that Hiei could rescue the boy before anything happened. Although he kept a watchful eye, he didn't even see the Fire Demon enter the plane.

Hiei entered the luggage hold as the luggage was being loaded, going in just before the door closed. There was no heat and when the plane achieved altitude it got very cold. For once Hiei was glad he was also part Ice Demon, because the cold didn't bother him. When he felt the plane drop its landing gear, he took part of the potion.  As soon as the luggage door was opened, he slipped out, moving so fast that the human porters didn't see him at all, but the Jeep carrying Aya, Sakio and Hido had already left. Hiei followed the road, listening for the sound of the Jeep. He caught up to it about 20 minutes later, when it stopped at a very modern house. Aya and Sakio disembarked and Hiei realized that the other man was already gone. He had been taken to his house first and Hiei had missed it. Hiei waited until the Jeep and its driver left and then jumped into the trees on the side of the house. He had seen a balcony there.

Hiei cautiously walked inside from the balcony. It was a bedroom, but no one was in it. Then he heard voices approaching and slipped back outside just before Aya and Sakio walked into the room. Hiei returned to the trees and went to the back of the house, finding a second balcony. He jumped down to it and went inside.

Kouga was sitting on the bed. The Wolf Demon jumped up when he saw Hiei, smiling for the first time since his capture. Hiei gave him a drink of the potion and told him that Tekki and Aniki was also captives. They needed to know which houses the two were in.

Together the two Demons walked to Sakio's room, Kouga kicking in the door with a loud crash of splintering wood.  Sakio looked up in surprise. "What are you doing here? Go back to your room!" he ordered the Wolf Demon and then he saw Hiei. A little shiver of fear ran down his spine. Somehow the Wolf had been freed.

Kouga grabbed Sakio, dragging him close to his fangs, holding him off the ground. He was growling. Aya grabbed Kouga's arm, "No! Hiei promised that Sakio would not be harmed!"

"What?" Kouga turned to Hiei, who nodded.

"It was the only way I could get on the island. I'm sorry."

Kouga let Sakio go, tossing him onto the bed as if he weighed nothing. Now that the rope magic was nullified, his power had returned. Sakio glared at Aya. "You helped him? You betrayed me?"

"Kouga is not an animal -- he is a person just like you and me. He has a family. I've met his wife and son. You had no right to use him!"

Hiei interrupted to ask where Tekki and Aniki were being held.

Aya answered. "The first house to the left of the airstrip is where Aniki is, but I don't know where Tekki is. Do you?" He turned to Sakio.

Sakio glowered but finally told them it was the house to the right of his, the third one from the airport.

Kouga rummaged through Sakio's closet, and then pulled on trousers and a polo shirt. It had been three months since he had worn clothes. Hiei told Kouga to find Tekki, while he went to rescue Aniki. Hiei gave him part of the potion and then gave him the crystal, instructing him to open the portal when he found Tekki and take everyone through. Hiei would rescue Aniki and then go through the portal with the boy. Kouga nodded and, with Sakio and Aya in tow, started to Kugaro's house. Hiei quickly went to the first house, praying that he would get there before anything happened to Aniki.

Upon reaching Kugaro's house, Kouga again kicked in the door. He told the startled maid to get with the group and the five of them went up the stairs. A large human male came out of the last room, angry at the interruption. Then Kugaro saw the Wolf Demon and ran back inside, locking the door behind him. Kouga tore down the door in seconds and rushed into the room, stopping in horror.

Tekki was hanging from large hooks fastened to the ceiling, and blood was dripping from him, staining the carpet below him deep red.

Kouga's growl became a roar and his claws slashed Kugaro wide open. His blood splattered across the carpet as he was eviscerated.  A grimace of agony crossed Kugaro's face for a second, then he fell to the floor, dead.

The maid screamed in terror, but was afraid to move. Sakio went white with fear; he suddenly realized that if it weren't for the small Demon's promise to Aya, he would be just as dead now.

Aya struggled to take Tekki off the hooks, wishing that he had never come to the island -- that he had never known about this horror. Kouga helped Aya lift him and unhook him, and together they removed the ropes.  Kouga blanched white, then reddened in anger as he saw the devices inside and attached to Tekki.  He was afraid to hurt the Bobcat even more, but Aya moved to help, gently removing them.

Once he was freed, Tekki curled into a fetal position and stayed there, completely unresponsive. Kouga wrapped him in a blanket he tore from the bed and gently picked up the Bobcat, cradling him in his strong arms.  He walked out of the house, with Aya and Sakio following, and the maid trailing behind. He wanted to get as close as possible to the first house, so Hiei did not have to go too far to reach the portal. Kouga prayed that what had happened to Tekki was not happening to Aniki.

The gods answered his prayers for Hiei arrived at the first house just in time. Aniki was tied to the bed, but Hido had not gotten any further. When he saw the Demon walk into the bedroom from the balcony, he pulled out a small gun from his coat pocket and fired pointblank at him. Hiei evaded the bullets easily and made quick work of the man with one slash of his razor-sharp sword, cutting him completely in half. Hido stood for a second, surprise and shock written on his face, and then the two halves fell away from each other to land with a wet plop.

Hiei untied Aniki and held the trembling, frightened boy in his arms, comforting him. After a few minutes, Hiei pulled Aniki to his feet, gave him the rest of the potion, and wrapped him in a blanket. Together they went outside to find the portal.

Almost at same moment that they reached the road, a bright white light appeared on the road about 100 feet in front of then and then dissipated. Jodah had arrived!

Kouga was on the other side of the mage and realized that there was no time left. He quickly threw the crystal down, triggering the spell inside, and a small portal opened to Otherworld. He started to give Tekki to Aya, but Hiei yelled at him to go through, so he pushed Aya and Sakio through, followed by the maid, and then walked through the portal with Tekki in his arms.

Jodah stood in front of Hiei and Aniki. So Otherworld had found him. He didn't know how but they would regret their interference. As soon as he finished with these two, he would use their own portal and destroy the Castle once and for all. And that interfering blue mage!

Hiei pushed Aniki behind him, facing the mage alone. Jodah began to laugh. "Not even the Demon Mage Bakura could prevail against me. And you! A half Fire Demon -- what can you do?" Jodah began to glow as he charged up his power.

Hiei stood his ground, and began to slowly unwrap his bandaged right arm, revealing the black tattoo that ran down it. A tattoo of a black dragon. He removed the covering from his Jagan eye and began to call the dragon. Jodah faltered, suddenly feeling a surge of power unlike anything he had ever felt. Even Rhu, the Great Dragon, had not felt like this. This had a feeling of evil, of unrepentant pits-of-hell evil. Purple and black swirls of mist began to form around Hiei and then a hint of a dragon's form.

Jodah suddenly realized what this power was -- but he had not realized that anyone had conquered it -- this was the Dragon of the Darkness Flame! There was no power in the Demon World stronger than that power. How could this small Demon standing before him control this kind of power? He put up the strongest shield he could and brought up his own power, and blue bolts of energy slammed into Hiei. The Fire Demon shrugged them off as if they were nothing.

The dragon formed out of the black mist and Hiei sent it to the mage. When it reached Jodah's barrier, brilliant sparks flew, but the barrier could not hold. Jodah screamed as the dragon bore through his barrier and then consumed him, taking the mage to the deepest pits of hell.

Hiei used all his power to reign the dragon back in, and then with Aniki's help, re-bandaged his arm, carefully wrapping in the many wards that kept the dragon under control. Then the Fire Demon slumped and fainted dead away. In the spot where Jodah died, Aniki noticed a gleam of light.  He looked closer and found four crystal shards.  He pocketed them, then picked Hiei up, carrying his rescuer to the portal and setting him down just at its mouth. Turning back to the island, he called forth his own power.

Black storm clouds quickly covered the island and soon after the lightning struck. Over and over it traveled downward, striking the seven houses, destroying them completely. Then he directed it to the tower house in the center, and a dozen bolts struck the tower. Walls crumbled and fires lit. In a short time, the entire island was in flame, and all the houses and the little plane gone. Aniki picked up Hiei again, adjusted his blanket, and walked through the portal to freedom.
